Guerilla Funk (Storm In Jerusalem & The Mysterious Death Of Yasser Arafat)

We’re back with another edition of Guerilla Funk.

After last week’s Feature Edition, I assumed we’d be doing a standard News Edition this time around, but here we are once again with a Feature Edition because I found the story so compelling I had to share it with you at the earliest opportunity.

Lets start with the News, and it seems that the trouble in Jerusalem over the security measures adopted by Isreali Security Forces at Al Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s Holiest Sites is causing a massive furore, with Palestinian Muslims in protest over the installation of Isreali ‘security measures’ at Al Aqsa including CCTV Cameras and Metal Detectors.

Five Palestinians have already been killed by Israeli forces and Settlers in two weeks of violence as tension mounts over discriminatory restrictions at Al Aqsa.

Its also ironic how the lead news story ties in with our Feature article on the unsolved death of Yasser Arafat, revered in his struggle for the Palestinian cause.

His death in a French Hospital in 2004 was initially unsolved and labelled a “mystery blood disorder”, but after years of fighting by his Widow, and a documentary produced in collaboration with Al Jazeera in 2012, his death is now suspected as an Isreali assassination using a dose of Radioactive Polonium.

The revelation sparked controversy even within Palestinian Liberation Leadership Circles resulting in the initiation of a full-scale Public investigation in which Arafat’s body was exhumed and samples taken from his corpse, ostensibly to get to the root cause of his death, even if it meant uncovering and exposing the suspected hidden Isreali hand.

In the end, the investigation results which were ‘inconclusive’ appear to have been controlled and manipulated by both the current Palestinian Leadership in collaboration with Isreal, America, France and Russia in favour of current Global Geo-Political relations in which Arafat and the PLO were viewed as an ‘Old Guard obstacle’ to the resolution of the Palestinian question, which ‘demanded’ new leadership with ‘fresh ideas’ to steer the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict towards resolution.

In the end, it seems like the Palestinian people and their cause have lost out the most following Arafat’s death and the inconclusive results of Arafat’s exhumation, particularly since as events at Al Aqsa Mosque show, there appears no end or solution in sight to the Israeli-Palestinian question.

Meanwhile, we’ve included a link to the Al Jazeera documentary ‘Killing Arafat’ on our YouTube Channel in the ‘History & Politics’ Playlist, as well as read some articles on the mystery surrounding Arafat’s death and its consequences for the Palestinian cause below, so you can explore the story or revisit it if you are familiar with it already.

Our usual News and Culture links to the African Independent, Al Jazeera and New York Times as well as whats hot in Hip Hop and the Afro-Pop scene via Ballerstatus and Afrobeat360 are included as well.
